Jin Shin Jyutsu

Jin Shin Jyutsu is the ancient art of tension relief. The various energy pathways of the body, if they become blocked, may cause serious disharmony within the body, leading to discomfort, pain or even serious illness. Jin Shin Jyutsu aims to awaken the awareness of the possibility of returning the body to a harmonious state.

It is important to realise that Jin Shin Jyutsu, being an art rather than a technique, is a skillful creation rather than a mechanical application.

Jin Shin Jyutsu does not rely on physical manipulation of the body and tissue, it uses only minimal pressure. In Jin Shin Jyutsu, the hands are used to unlock and redirect energy, through interaction with the body’s 26 “safety energy locks”.

Jin Shin Jyutsu History

Ancient written records stored in the achieves of the Japanese Imperial Palace show that Jin Shin Jyutsu predates the birth of both Gautama Buddha and Moses. Jin Shin Jyustu was rediscovered in the early 20th century by Master Jiro Murai. Murai, after recovering from a “terminal” illness, became devoted to the rival of Jin Shin Jyutsu for future generations. He believed that Jin Shin Jyutsu is a natural ability available to all human beings, if they are to train themselves appropriately.

A close follower of Master Murai, Mary Burmeister, brought the art of Jin Shin Jyutsu to the United States after returning from her Japanese travels in the 1950s. Since that time, interest in Jin Shin Jyutsu has steadily expanded.

A Jin Shin Jyutsu Session

A typical Jin Shin Jyutsu Session will begin with the practitioner listening to the pulse. This will reveal information about the condition of the energy flows within the patient. The focus is not diagnosis, but on harmonisation. Through being sensitive to the patient’s pulse, the practitioner will receive an indication of where the blockages within the patient’s body are.

The treatment itself consists of applying gentle pressure to specific points in various combinations. This continues until complete energy harmony is established. There is no physical manipulation or pain.

The length of a Jin Shin Jyutsu session is generally one hour.

Benefits of Jin Shin Jyutsu

Jin Shin Jyutsu may seem simple, but the results can be amazing. It is said to be effective in the relief of pain, soothing stiff or strained muscles, clearing up of respiratory conditions, elimination of appetite imbalance and the correction of reproductive difficulties. When it comes to emotional problems, Jin Shin Jyutsu is said to have dramatic effects. Recipients of Jin Shin Jyutsu claim to have had deeply spiritual experiences during or after a session.

How Jin Shin Jyutsu Works

Jin Shin Jyutsu relies on three main vital energy pathways, which are known as “The trinity”. These pathways ascend and descend within the body. They balance the and harmonise the body, spirit and mind via twenty-six energy point locations contained within the body. These points are known as Safety Energy Factors. It is through these points that energy flows can be unlocked within the body.

Human beings will naturally make use of their energy locks during their daily lives. For instance, folding hands, crossing arms or placing hands on hips are ways that we use our Safety Energy Factors. According to Jin Shin Jyutsu these actions can modify the flow of energy within the body. Learning Jin Shin Jyutsu is about learning how we affect our energy flows during the course of our daily lives.

Jin Shin Jyutsu Examples

Jin Shin Jyutsu incorporates an awareness of the effects of the annual season upon a person’s energy flow.

For instance, in early summer the heart and small intestines will be in a state of heightened activity. This can lead to people trying to take on too much. But if the energy flows are balanced, joy and happiness will be the result. One strategy for achieving balance is to grasp your little finger with the opposite hand. Do this until you feel a rhythmic pulse.

In Autumn/Fall, the lungs and large intestine will be activated. This will cause grief and sadness if there is an energy imbalance, however, if energy can be harmonised, a person will experience deep trust and the ability to let go. By using your opposite hand to grasp the whole ring finger, it is thought that balance can be restored.
