Mindfulness is the practice of maintaining conscious awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment. Although Mindfulness originated in the tradition of Buddhist meditation, a secular practice of mindfulness has entered the mainstream in recent years, largely through the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn and his Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program.

Since its inception, Mindfulness practices have been the focus of thousands of studies which have documented the physical and mental health benefits of mindfulness in general and MBSR in particular.  As a result, a growing number of programs are emerging that adapt the MBSR model for schools, prisons, hospitals, veterans’ centers, and beyond.
